Abandoned Castles in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The locations in order as they appear: 1. Lennox Castle was built between 1837 and 1841 in the Norman castle style. In 1987 the castle was vacated and later fell into a state of ruin. 2. Dunalastair House was built in 1859 to a design by Andrew Heiton. During the Second World War, the house was requisitioned and used as a school for Polish children. In the mid 1950s Dunalastair was abandoned following the death of the current owner’s grandmother, and the lead from the roof was stolen in the sixties, leaving the interiors exposed – the reason for the decay of the building to its current condition. 3. Buchanan Castle is the site of an earlier castle, historically owned by Clan Buchanan who are known to have held the estate of their name since at least 1231. In 1850 the original castle burned down and the 4th Duke constructed the current building. After World War II the castle was briefly used as a school, however soon fell into ruin. In 1954, the roof was removed in order to avoid taxes, and the inevitable decline of the building began. 4. Cambusnethan Priory was designed by James Gillespie Graham and completed in 1820. It is generally regarded as being one of the best remaining examples of a Graham-built country house in the quasi-ecclesiastical style of the Gothic revival. Today the building is in a derelict condition, although efforts are being made by the ‘Friends of Cambusnethan Priory‘ to save it from further deterioration. 5. Crawford Priory originally built as Crawford Lodge by the 21st Earl of Crawford in 1758. It was substantially enlarged and extended in the early nineteenth century by a sister of the 22nd Earl, Lady Mary Lindsay Crawford. In 1968 the house was closed, and gradually fell into disrepair and ruin. #Scotland #abandoned #castle #abandonedplaces #haunted #beautiful #hiddengems #explore #scottishtiktok #fyp #moody #travel #gothic #scottish #hauntedhouse #ruins
