Bukele is literally doing what narcos do. Give struggling people what they need, so they turn a blind-eye to the bad things they do because the gov previous admins have done little to nothing for them

The reason why he is popular is because El Salvador has been in constant fear and death from 1980s until bukele. You have to understand how dysfunctional justice was before bukele to understand us

For context, El Salvador had a civil war lasting over a decade. There was corruption and death, with many fleeing to the U.S. People lived in fear and poverty in El Salvador. Bukele was their “savior”

His methods are popular because his country demanded quick quick action. The gangs literally ran the country and he stopped that. The US isn’t a comparable country though Trump pretends it is.

I can tell you being half Salvadoran on my mother’s side, he is extremely popular with my family in El Salvador. The other interesting thing is that they are usually Republican Party supporters. 1/2
