@pulpkitchenpodcast: A very gripping film! But what did you think of it? #Warfare is out this Friday in the UK. Full review in EP175. #podcast #film #fyp #review #a24 #directing #cinema #movie
I think it’s made for the viewer to see the soldiers perspectives in that the bigger picture of why they’re at war is irrelevant to them when the firing starts.

i think it tries to stray away from conventional “war” films and really narrows down the scale. instead of framing the “war”, you frame the perspective of soldiers

I think for what it is it doesn't need the wider context. I think that's its beauty. It could be any war. It's a group of soldiers, trapped in a horrifying situation. Played almost in real time

I dunno, it kinda feels like he cast a boyband to communicate “war bad” message, and in 2025 that bland neutrality is … mid.

There's this weird movement to want Garland to make films about the bigger picture, with this and Civil War. Yet Garland seems way more interested in the people involved far more. 1/2

I'm fine with Warfare going for a more experiential side of Warfare. Films can choose to be really broad in what it covers or being more focused on a singular perspective. Its all diversity of art.

It’s politically de-contextualised, which I can understand is not to everyones taste, but if anything I’ve seen more discourse surrounding the film due to this. Some people will appreciate the film…

Civil War did a similar thing tbh, was just like the message was “war is bad, war is violent”

My takeaways from the film were that these soldiers clearly didn’t sign up for or want what they experienced, there are no hero’s in conflict, and how bad I felt for the Iraqi family and 2 soldiers

interesting take guys, I have this episode saved to listen to soon, have just finished watching Warfare this evening. I feel bad that Garland keeps getting mixed reviews on his movies because people keep saying they're apolitical, but I think it's fantastic that he's making movies set in a heavily political period and yet manages to focus on more than the politics and focuses on the day to day and the people within those situations rather than the situations themselves

The movie was to show Elliot who lost his memories and leg what happened and to show what war is to humanize navy seals who before the movie felt distant and more than human

It’s cool to get a film that is 100% about the fighting . It’s the only war film that it shot on a micro scale . It’s refreshing to just have a zoomed in picture of a battle

Saw this yesterday and it's honestly one of the most terrifying films I've seen. It's a horror film more than anything. While it's fair to complain that it's purely from the viewpoint of the squad 1/2

Decontextualising the invasion of Iraq is pretty pathetic considering all of the well documented war crimes, including rampant sexual assault + abuse against both Iraqi people and other US soldiers
