Black music is about inspiration - inspiring to be something better than we could dream of like Whitney Houston’s voice, Beyoncé’s performance, Kendrick’s lyricism. White music is about aspiration - the girl next door, Taylor Swift, it’s not about sheer talent but relatability. Rose and Jisoo are doing well bc they’re going down the relatability route. Jennie and Lisa are culture vulturing which means that without the inspirational aspect, it will not land with an audience. Kim Namjoon (aka RM) of BTS is a great example of a kpop artist who is breaking the barriers of the kpop industry. I highly recommend listening to his solo work.

Kpop is ultra capitalistic and lacks artistic integrity at the foundation. People really do like it though because it’s literally engineered to be addicting. Most kpop stars are Idols not Artists.
