As an elementary teacher if I say point at whose talking, whoever they point to starts whining and screaming “I WASNT TALKING STOP” and it makes everything 10x worse

I just say „if the person next to you is still talking please remind them it’s time for us to be quiet“ small interactions instead of large group embarrassment

Nro 1 method of pointing the kid talking, in my opinion can affect the self confidence of the kid being pointed. I don’t think is a nice way to call their attention.

Hilarious… I just don’t imagine the pointing strategy going well in my classes lol. Either going to trigger more noise, or a parent is not going to like it, which I sort of understand.

I have a handheld timer that I just grab and start and they literally get quiet instantly. I don’t even do anything with the time, but it works for my 5th graders

I always say “point to someone who’s talking right now” and then when they point I say “and what should they not be doing” and they all say together “TALKING” and it’s kind of like a call and response because it regroups but also reminds them of the expectation lol

We do a similar thing when kids are on devices when they shouldn’t be. I say “321 shame” and we all point at the person on their device 😅 works a treat and it’s a good laugh with the right class too

when I point to a student to stay quite hell argue so loudly and point to another and the others will start arguing with him and each other and they'll get too loud to even hear me

I have high school and I asked a specific kid to stop talking once during an evaluation and got in trouble for “humiliating” him. I think it depends on your admin if anything works. 🤷🏻♀️
