@abc7chicago: What began as a routine training session during a rescue course on Peru’s Vallunaraju Mountain peak on April 13 turned into a real-life emergency when part of a massive glacier broke off unexpectedly. Footage filmed by Jose Forero, who regularly posts about rescue trainings, shows a serac, or glacial ice ridge, breaking off into water on the mountain at 5,200 meters above sea level. “I felt true fear when it began to crack,” Forero wrote. “The wave after it was huge, grateful for the years of experience and what we have learned in the course these days, we were able to speak the same language and work as a team.” Vallunaraju is a mountain in the Cordillera Blanca range of the Peruvian Andes, popular for alpine climbing and mountaineering. #news #glacier #peru
