SLANDER AND BACKBITING Buhtan (بهتان) – Slander (false accusation): Saying something untrue about someone. Ghibah (غيبة) – Backbiting: Saying something true but negative about someone behind their back. Namimah (نميمة) – Tale-carrying/gossip: Spreading words between people to create conflict. It is narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, once asked:
SLANDER AND BACKBITING Buhtan (بهتان) – Slander (false accusation): Saying something untrue about someone. Ghibah (غيبة) – Backbiting: Saying something true but negative about someone behind their back. Namimah (نميمة) – Tale-carrying/gossip: Spreading words between people to create conflict. It is narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, once asked: "Do you know what ghiba is?" The people said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet ﷺ said: "This is mentioning something about your Muslim brother that he would not like." Someone asked: "And if what I am saying is inherent in my brother?" He replied: "If what you are saying is inherent in him, then you are committing ghiba, and if it is not inherent in him, then you are slandering him!" 📚Sahih Muslim 2589 Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى said: “And whoever commits a mistake or a sin and accuses an innocent person of it, he has incurred the burden of slander and a manifest sin.” Quran 4:112 Yahya ibn Rashid said: We were sitting waiting for Abdullah ibn Umar who came out to us and sat. He then said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: if anyone disputes knowingly about something which is false, he remains in the displeasure of Allah till he desists, and if anyone makes an untruthful accusation against a Muslim, he will be made by Allah to dwell in the corrupt fluid flowing from the inhabitants of Hell till he retracts his statement. 📚 Abu Dawud 3597
