Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is saprophytic, feeding mainly on dead trees preferring hardwood such as oak and maple. Wood is composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The mycelium of fungi secrete enzymes and acids to decompose organic matter releasing nutrients they can absorb and are recycled during the process back into the soil. ✅ Please do your research and take proper precautions. Make sure your working area & tools are clean and sterile. We wore disposable masks and gloves and used 70% isopropyl alcohol to sanitize. The needle of the syringe was flame sterilized to eliminate potential contaminants. The bag of sterilized grains was inoculated with Lion’s Mane mushroom mycelium liquid culture. The incubation period for this mushroom can take between 2-4 weeks depending on conditions. The bag was placed in a dark and undisturbed area with an average temperature of 70 F (68-75 is fine). When the grains are about 30 to 40% colonized, you can break them up and shake the bag to colonize the rest. Allow it fully colonize for another week or two. The materials below were put and shaken in a filter patch bag to make the substrate. Add 5 cups of boiling water to hydrate and pasteurize the pellets then shake the bag (consider wearing oven mitts). Allow the block to cool for 8-12 hours. We placed the blocks in a cooler overnight for additional pasteurization. 5 cups hardwood fuel pellets 1⁄2 cup wheat bran 5 cups boiling water Add spawn after the block has completely cooled down: 1 ½ to 2 cups Lion’s Mane grain spawn After inoculation, the block was placed in an undisturbed area with temperatures of 68-75 F to colonize. This is the incubation period which can range from 2-3 weeks depending on the environment. 🍄Fruiting Time: Blocks were placed in a well-lit area away from direct sunlight. The cut areas of the blocks were misted with water 4-5 times daily. The process took approximately 5 1/2 weeks. (Fruiting temperature: 60-70 F) Happy mushroom growing!🍄❤️ #fungi #mushroom #lionsmane #mushroom #hericiumerinaceus #mushrooms
