Because in Singapore, is normal for both parent to go work. So most children grow up with the maid instead.

I had maid but my family wasn't even rich. My father was taxi driver and my mother worked customer service at hotel. It was just cheaper for both of them to work than relying on one person salary. Our maid eventually left once eldest brother was old enough to do chores
