@jbirdfit: Shame Stacking If you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or trapped in perfectionism, there's often something deeper at work. Here’s what’s really going on beneath the surface: Shame sits at the root. Layered on top of that is your inner critic, constantly patrolling: “Be better. Be thinner. Work harder. Don’t say no. Put others first.” Then comes the surface-level perfectionism—trying to manage how you're seen and stay in control. And on top of all that? Anxiety. Anxiety is often a signal that you're disconnected from the present moment—either replaying the past or catastrophizing the future. But here’s the truth: anxiety is the smoke, not the fire. The real fire is shame. And the antidote to shame is self-compassion. When you learn to meet yourself with kindness instead of criticism, the entire stack begins to shift. You’re not broken. You’re just buried under beliefs you didn’t choose. And it’s time to come back to yourself—starting at the root.
