It wasn’t until I watched a few TikTok’s about ADHD that I ever suspected that I had it. It was from people sharing things like this that made me go.. “hmm… I think that way too,” or “I have trouble with that too.” ADHD diagnoses are particularly uncommon with women because we oftentimes present entirely different than the 8 year old boy bouncing off the walls. We are bouncing off the walls, but they are metaphorical walls and it’s all located in our heads! Its been 2 years since my official diagnosis and I still sometimes feel like I’m pretending. After living so long not knowing this about myself, I’ve spent so much time pretending that my brain worked like everyone else’s.. and getting upset with myself when it inevitably didn’t. So naturally, formal diagnosis for me was a huge relief. It made everything make sense. I’m not stupid, I’m just wired differently. I hope that if you’ve had a similar experience you are able to come to a point of pleasantly coexisting with your neurodivergence.
