I'd like to add on the H.A.L.T. for those of us still caught in the dark spiral. If you're starting to get any kind of irrational thought, ask yourself if you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. You're a human, you have non optional needs, fill those needs.

Vee :
Knowing your triggers is for knowing which situations to give yourself a little extra grace for out of proportion responses. Avoidance reinforces to your brain those situations are dangerous, thus making it worse. You can’t heal a trigger if you avoid it. Just make sure you start out purposely putting yourself in triggering situations when it is SAFE!!!

Yes!! We are not responsible for what happened to cause the triggers, but we are responsible for healing them… not avoiding them and leaving them there!

thank you for this! I needed something to help cause I know we both get triggered. my partner more than me. but I heard something a long time ago about my triggers essentially are my responsibility and not because of her and she didn't trigger me her actions did and learned how to kind of work through them. but this will change how I handle them

I’m so desperate to incorporate something to help us. We’re really in the trenches. Do you have any suggestions for how to remember to do this before reacting? I react out of defensiveness so quickly.

Best explanation. Most experts ( lol ) push a blame others for triggers. This method makes the person responsible for their triggers

Bro I tried to explain this to him. Maybe if he sees it from you he will understand. That’s how it seems to go.
