If you don’t see giving one’s own life as the sacrifice you can also view it as Jesus, without sin, died for our sins so that we may not die a spiritual death

it does matter because by living a perfect life as Jesus and still dying for our sins sins which we deserve death for, gives us a way to God through Christ.
