Of all the crazy rules in baseball the one not there that would make sense is non swing accidental bat touches should not be considered a hit but a dead ball.

1 he didn't intend to hit it 2 didn't go across the plate 3 the catcher impeded the runners ability to advanced 4 it was approaching the player

well I can see where they made that count. that should not have counted though. he should actually have to swing his bat or put it in the bunt position in order for it to count

if the batter ducks and the ball happens to hit the bat, like in this instance it's considered a foul ball if still in foul territory.

as a K state fan awesome play technically that’s not a hit the bat never swung across the plate that could be counted as a hit batter because he had to duck to miss the pitch

Hit by pitch rule, he had to move to avoid being hit by the ball. Interference rule, catcher without ball in hand impeded what would be a runner's advance line. Batter awarded 2nd base.

These should be ruled the same as a check swing, if the bat doesn’t cross the plate, then the batter didn’t swing, and is therefore a dead ball

A hit is defined as a fair ball that allows a batter to reach base safely. If the ball hits the bat but the batter is not swinging, it does not meet the criteria for a hit. This would be a foul ball.

Played baseball back in the day, and my coach would throw a tennis ball at the team if we didn’t pull our bats down when we’re ducking a pitch, because it still counts as a hit + live ball.

one of the first things i learned was to pull my bat down with me on pitches like this. unlucky for the batter but its still an out

idk know the rules, but the bat that struck the ball was held by a batter avoiding a pitch that would have struck him instead if he didn't take immediate action...so dead ball
