Ben stiller mentioned off handedly on the severance podcast that they chose a global time to release so the most people could watch at release time. But this puts all of Europe at 12-3am. So idk.

Prime used to do this. I think it’s released on Wednesday UTC? Up until very recently Prime dropped shows at 5pm PST/midnight UTC.

it’s a Global show so they release it on a “universal global time slot” like Australia time or something (spoke to a marketing exec about this who said this was an issue in their messaging meetings)

It’s like movie theater release date logic. The listed date is the first FULL day it’s up, but they do special evening premiere runs the night before because why the hell not?

it's so that there's less of a strain on their servers. It spreads out the time that people are watching it over a 48-hour period. so traffic doesn't Spike for 1 hour.
