If his IQ is between 80–90, that’s borderline intellectual functioning. He’s not necessarily “disabled” by law, but it still makes learning and adapting much harder. He tried trade school twice and flunked not necessarily because he didn’t qualify, but likely because it was genuinely difficult for him. The daughter is stable and successful she has a husband and a home; the parents probably trust she’ll be fine. Their son may struggle for the rest of his life. This isn’t favoritism it’s a practical choice. It’s not about rewarding failure, but protecting the child who may not be able to stand on his own when they’re gone.
