How is society still SO against women’s success? ⤵️ I recently posted a video that outlined the current status of my life (36, single, and childless to name a few). I had no idea it would stir up such a discussion. I’m baffled how in 2023 people still think the only way a woman can travel the world and have money is via a man. If you’re new here, welcome 🤗 Here’s a few things about me, that, had commenters known, maybe would’ve curbed the hate: In 2014, at the age of 27, I left corporate America to teach English in Thailand. I ended up staying for two years - it was a “backwards” career move that ultimately led me to find remote work through connections I made there. I left to travel full-time, and was working as a copywriter for a Thai travel company. I was making ~$1500/mo and was strategic about where I went and made my budget work. Later, a friend (whom I’d met in Thailand) hooked me up with another remote job- this time with a US-based tech startup. I still work for them as a freelancer 6 years later, and have also built up my own brand. Instagram has given me tons of opportunities - collabs and brand deals in the travel space that significantly offset my costs. I spent years traveling (much of it solo) but with the pandemic in 2020 I decided to make a home base in Amsterdam. Under the DAFT visa, I registered a marketing business and got residency. Did I ever think I’d be single, renting, childless, and living abroad at 36? No. But that’s where I’m at and I’m excited to see what comes next. The point of the reel was not to say that happiness is being single or childless etc. It was to normalize different life paths and help other women who may be in the same place understand that they’re not alone. That there are so many ways to live your life and society’s timeline does not need to define what fulfills you. If you dream of living in Europe, exploring new places, or aspire to travel solo, my inbox is always open and I’m happy to have you here 🤗 . . . . . #lifeabroad #expatlife #digitalnomad #unconventionalliving #travelgoals #traveldestinations #europetravel #europetrip #travelvlog #travelblogger #solofemaletravel
