All rooted in this ancient part of the city, each with its own story, but connected by time, place, and people. There’s a corner of Cairo that took me completely by surprise. Not because of how ancient it is though the history here goes back thousands of years but because of what it represents. In one small district of Old Cairo, you’ll find a mosque, a church, and a synagogue… all within walking distance of each other. Not just existing side by side, but standing together as symbols of something we don’t talk about enough: peaceful coexistence. I started my visit at the Amr Ibn Al-As Mosque the oldest mosque in Africa. Just a few minutes away is the Hanging Church, one of the most important Coptic churches in Egypt. And nearby, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, tied to Jewish traditions and even the story of Moses. Walking through this area felt like stepping into a living reminder that our differences don’t have to divide us. They can exist side by side. They have, for centuries. This is why I travel. To find places like this. To learn, to feel, to reflect.
