😉 The final victory remained with the Mahdists**, despite the tactical defeat in the Battle of Abu Klea itself. ### **Why is that?** 1. ** The British did not achieve their main goal** - They won the battle, but could not save Gordon in time: ** Khartoum fell on January 26, 1885**, and the general was killed. - The expedition turned out to be pointless, and the British eventually retreated. 2. ** The Mahdists retained control of Sudan** - Although their losses were enormous, they continued to resist. - The British finally left Sudan in 1885, and the Mahdists held it until **1898** (the Battle of Omdurman). 3. **Britain's strategic failure** - The failure of the expedition was a blow to the prestige of the British Empire. - It was only 13 years later (in 1898) that the Sudan was reconquered by Kitchener. ### **Conclusion** - **Tactically** the British won (they repulsed the attack and continued on their way). - ** Strategically ** victory for the Mahdists: They killed Gordon, held the Sudan, and forced Britain to temporarily retreat. In short: **Abu Klea is a British victory in battle, but a Mahdist victory in war**.

so this is battle of abu klea If I'm not mistaken, the name of this battle is the Mahdist War, This war involved England, italy, congo, Ethiopia and british colonies, namely India, Egypt, canada, colony of new south and they fight the Mahdist troops, actually there is no question of religion, it's just a battle against the rebels

this is misleading the british had advanced guns cannons and military training while the mahdists mostly had swords and spears it was not a fair fight at all numbers mean nothing when one side has modern weapons and the other does not
