Replying to @Jackie Shames If you’re burnt out and you know it clap your hands 👏👏 I had such a special morning on @TODAY with Hoda & Jenna. There’s more I want to say on the topic, so I’m going to share it here. ⬇️  I rarely have conversations with friends without someone bringing up how burnt out, overwhelmed, or overworked they feel. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone, but it’s sad to know we’re all feeling this way.
For a while, there was an obsession with “hustle culture.” It was cool to show off how much you were working – at one point I literally owned a sweatshirt that said “#nevernotworking.” I wore it proudly. But as a long-term result, so many of us feel like we actually do have to always be working, to the point where taking time off feels like we’re doing something fundamentally wrong. Plus, we’ve all had bosses who have shamed us for taking our PTO, and that sticks with us for years to come.  I built my business off of my passion for creativity & helping people in their dating lives, but because my next paycheck is never guaranteed, I feel this immense pressure to always be on and doing whatever it takes to lock in that next deal. It makes it difficult to justify taking breaks. I’m a one-woman band wearing so many hats. Most days it seems like helping people with their dating lives is the last thing I actually get to do. I desperately want to stay focused on creating meaningful content, but I worry that the paychecks won’t come if I’m not hustling, “influencing,” and doing whatever it takes to grow my accounts. I can’t do it all. I’m afraid my burnout is leading me to fall out of love with what I do.  Plus, our parents generation was buying homes and having children at our age. I personally feel so far away from that financially, and it’s scary. Not to mention, I’m planning a wedding and preparing for the next chapter of my life while trying to enjoy THIS part of my life. It’s difficult to do when I feel like I should always be working, and when I’m not physically working, I’m still thinking about work. The narrative surrounding work culture needs to change. Curious what resonates. Let’s keep the conversation going. 💙 #burnout #entrepreneur #parenting #workculture #officeculture #millennials #genz
