Neo England Gundam had a rifle with projectiles. Also Neo France rose bits shoot lasers. Technically also Shining Gundam also shoots lasers from wrists. So I think it just limits projectiles not bans.

There’s no rule against ranged weapons in the Gundam fight it’s just that melee focused units became the meta because master Asia was on a winning streak for the past 3 tournaments and melee units

I particularly liked China's Gundam called the dragon Gundam and I'm pretty sure they cheated because spewing flames from the dragon hands would be technically considered a projectile and if the rule is they're not allowed projectiles this would violate that but it's never mentioned that they violated a rule especially when they're literally shooting flames from their hands but I thought that one was really awesome it's one of my favorites I actually had the toy for it too
