cash rules everything around me, but cash won’t buy real artistry. i was specifically talking about nwa and wu tang clan for poverty and police brutality. the demonizing women and demeaning women part was about most filipino rappers. i hope this clears things up. i’m aware of abra and gloc 9’s controversies. i was just using them as an example for cultural impact since their works reached many and were very popular. a lot of mainstream rappers imitate black rappers that feeds into racial stereotypes. i’m not generalizing modern rappers today, just talking about how a lot of them or most of them normalize the issues i mentioned. there are artists who deserve their own platform and recognition. not excusing or defending nwa and wu tang clan members. some were misogynists like eazy e for example. he was a great rapper but he had a lot of misogynistic lyrics. wu tang clan both wrote respectful and disrespectful lyrics about women which rza expressed regret about. just talking about their impact as a hiphop group. their impact in the black community made people wake up to poverty, racism, and police brutality which was huge. that’s about it. however i’m not going to excuse them in the misogyny aspect. gloc 9 and abra had controversies too, but i like to highlight again their cultural impact since their works reached many people. i don’t excuse them for things they did either, whether misogyny or allegedly being apolitical. just talking about how a lot of mainstream artists, not all, imitate black rappers in a way that feeds into racial stereotypes black people suffered from for years. treating it as some sort of cosplay or an aesthetic. i’m not generalizing modern rappers or even old school rappers. i was talking about how most filipino rappers today normalize the issues i mentioned. it’s not my intention to discredit artists either modern or old school and i don’t intend to bring down my own people. i’m aware there are artists who deserve their own recognition.
