I also mix my own but I added Geogard ECT to maintain the freshness to prevent from fungus, molds, or any bacteria that will grow in my diys. Even if you leave it in fridge it will not be safe from gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast and molds activity. Anything diy’s that has water will not safe from those bacteria because this bad organism thrives in water. So if you want to make this without cosmetic preservatives just make small amount that can be used for 2 days and leave in fridge but after 2 days I will not used the remaining diys. . With cosmetic preservatives can be used for up to 1-2 years. Geogard ECT is an eco, natural preservative, very gentle and safe to use.

I have this and I use it often but I don’t like the smell do you find that it smells a little musty? And I’m curious how long do you leave it in the refrigerator before you make a fresh batch?

I keep it in the frig and I put it in my hair and scalp like if I was using conditioner or hair detainees I LOVE IT!!!!! I also put it in a 7 ounce glass jar and it lasts me 2 weeks in the frig. I don't think you want it to sit in the frig longer than 15 days.
