Outdated is one thing, structural issues are another. My home we purchased is in a quiet small town, we bought the cheapest house on the street because it wasn't a money pit, and the seller agreed to replace the whole roof which was our point of contention. You can live with outdated until you want/need to update. We've continued to slowly improve the home with clearance updates/upgrades. It's a simple life but a good one.
