@rtenews: People who buy or consume illegal drugs in a recreational environment are directly supporting criminals, a Detective Superintendent has said. Det Supt Paul Murphy was speaking following the sentencing of Glen Ward, who admitted to firing a semi-automatic rifle on New Years Day in 2022 at the back of a house in Finglas. Ward's brother, 23-year-old Eric O'Driscoll, was jailed earlier this month for the same offence. Det Supt Murphy, who was the officer in charge of the investigation, said criminals like Ward and O'Driscoll act and believe they are above the law as they inflict significant harm and tragedy upon the communities in which they live and operate from. He warned that even though people who use illegal drugs in a recreational environment might consider themselves removed from organised crime, every time they buy or consume drugs, they are directly supporting criminals like Ward and O'Driscoll and the misery they have inflicted on their communities. #rtenews
