@themomtrotter: After homeschooling my son his whole life and traveling to over 65 countries together, saying he’s now in boarding school in Nigeria definitely catches people off guard. But here’s the thing, I went to boarding school at 9 & so did my mom. If you grew up in Cameroon 🇨🇲 like I did, then you know it’s normal. By Form 1 / Year 7 (middle school in the U.S.), my friends & I were heading off to boarding school. That experience shaped me, & I wanted my A to have that too. He is very outgoing & adjusts to new places like it’s second nature, so boarding school hasn’t been a big change for him. He already has lots of friends, & it feels like he’s been there for years! I’m very shy, so I know I wouldn’t have adjusted like that. Lol 🙈 His only complaint that first week was how long he had to sit in class. Since we typically homeschool for about 3 hours a day, that was something he had to get used to. I want him to experience different perspectives, to know what it’s like to be homeschooled and to attend a traditional school + a boarding (Killing two birds with one stone, lol). One thing I always remind him is this: there’s growth in discomfort. I want him to grow into a young man who knows who he is, where he comes from, & what he’s capable of. So yes, it’s okay to feel a little uncomfortable sometimes. Plus, his boarding school is 100X fancier & nicer than the one I attended in Cameroon! 😂 Anyways; this isn’t the end of our home/worldschooling journey, it’s just a new chapter. One where he’s learning not just academics, but identity, independence, & more & I’m so excited for him! And I’m happy to see what’s next. Moving to Nigeria just makes sense! For all of us. ❤️ PS, in the U.S., boarding school is like speaking Russian, some sort of taboo, meanwhile most people I know & grew up with went to boarding school. Lol 🏫 Would you send your child to a boarding school? Another PS, A looked through this video, asked me to use this song & told me to align boarding school with the beat drop! 😂 ……… #themomtrotternigeria #themomtrotterboardingschool #movingtonigeria #nigeriawithkids / moving to Nigeria / Nigeria with kids / visit Nigeria

I’m taking my two boys to an Islamic Quranic boarding school once they’re 8/9 … this country is not a place to grow up your kids . They will come back when it’s time for college 🥰🥰 you did great 👏

Boarding school is normal yes. However, transitioning from not interacting with kids at school to boarding is rough. I’d have done a transition term/semester in day school first.

He will be fine plus having a room to yourself in boarding school is already a sign that the school is at an international level 😩

So I read your caption and out of curiosity why Nigeria and not Cameroon? Was there something about Nigeria that stuck out to you with regards to the education system?
