I used to think I just needed to try harder to stay calm. But the truth was, I was living in fight or flight. Not because I was a bad mom, but because my nervous system was overwhelmed. Now I know that regulation isn’t about staying calm all the time. It’s about creating safety in my body so I can come back to calm more quickly, even in the chaos. Here are a few things that actually help me regulate when I’m overstimulated or spiraling: 💛 Stepping outside barefoot for 2 minutes 💛 Squeezing something cold like an ice pack or frozen orange 💛 Doing 5 jumping jacks or shaking out my arms 💛 Placing one hand on my heart and one on my belly, breathing in through my nose for 4 and out through my mouth for 6 💛 Letting myself cry when I need to, and not making that mean I’m failing Nervous system healing isn’t a quick fix. It’s a daily practice. But it’s one of the most life-changing things I’ve ever done. 👇 we’d love to hear from you. What helps you regulate when everything feels like too much?
