I had mine out as an adult. Worst pain I’ve ever experienced but worth it in the long run. Zero throat infections since.

I was in my 20s. I got them removed. it's doable and probably better for you because they catch food and basically continue to make you sick. I had an infection when they got taken out because it would not get cured it was becoming immune to the antibiotics for tonsillitis. so a week after a course of antibiotics I got them removed and got a secondary infection. it was the worst pain ever...because they were infected beyond the point of no return. so I ended up needing higher class strong af antibiotics. then with Tylenol 3 I was ok. if I didn't get them removed I would of got an incurable infection and just killed my liver even more with antibiotics. my advice...remove them before it gets worse.

I’d rather sit in a bonfire than do it again as an adult

Tonsils out when I was 21,and I've had four childbirths. I'd rather go through childbirths/recovery than the tonsillectomy again. It was so painful and recovery was long and hard. But it did fix the problem.

Got mine out at 18 and it took a month to recover and it was horrible, better than constantly having strep and tonsil stones but it hurt so bad I didn’t want to talk for a week and I love to talk

I got mine out at 29. Halfway through week 2 I sat on my floor and cried bc I just wanted to eat and everything hurt. Post-op bleed day 4. Got bronchitis after that was awful. But no strep since. Worth it

Did it at 25 and it was truly a miserable experience but I stopped getting strep. I didn’t eat solid food for 10+ days, I sobbed at the ENT. I was also teaching 2nd grade so my recovery time was not long enough.

I got mine taken out in October! It took about a full month to recover, but I’m so thankful. I haven’t been sick since, not even a cold! I had strep around 480 times since I was 15, I’m now 24 😅

Its one of the most high risk surgeries in adults because if you throw a clot- you can bleed out. Thats why they don’t like doing it in adults (OR employee)

I had mine removed as an adult. It’s painful but my doctor told me that since I had already been through child birth it wouldn’t feel as bad. I was down in pain for about a week but it was barable with pain meds and ice packs.

I have reoccurint tonsillitis and I’ve been through hell. For the past 4 months I’ve had it 5x and cannot wait to get the surgery. Unfortunately in Australia waiting times are long so I’ve been suffering. If I were you I would do it.

I’ve gotten them out TWICE. It was so bad. The nurse said her tonsils were worse than child birth. It was not fun at all but worth it in the end. Unfortunately they were so bad he missed a piece tho

minimum 2 weeks off work. biggest risks are Dehydration (most common) and bleeding (less common). make sure the doc will hook you up with good pain meds during recovery, and stay hydrated

As an adult I had them out. 30 days without solids. It’s awful!! I thought they were gaslighting me. However….i didn’t get sick often about a year after. I’m pretty healthy now. But it’s hard!
