@cnbc: The U.S. #economy contracted in the first three months of 2025 on an import surge at the start of President Donald Trump’s second term in office as he wages a potentially costly trade war. Gross domestic product, a sum of all the goods and services produced from January through March, fell at a 0.3% annualized pace, according to a Commerce Department report Wednesday adjusted for seasonal factors and inflation. This was the first quarter of negative growth since Q1 of 2022. Full details at the #linkinbio or tap the link on screen. #CNBC

Would have been +4.1 if not for cuts in government spending and companies importing in advance to avoid tariffs. It was an AMAZING NUMBER

Do people not understand the gdp equation? This is expected and not necessarily a bad thing.

An incredible achievement by Trump. Imagine how worse it actually is now as this is measuring 2 and 3 months ago.

Net imports decrease gdp. If people expect future tariffs it makes sense to import now as a hedge. The decrease in imports will show up next quarter as a bump in gdp.
