@nicolascurciowriter: Scattershot thoughts on WARFARE and two other films that allegedly fetishize violence #warfare #polytechnique #alexgarland #elephant #gusvansant
It is pro-war. Also The Grinch is pro-theft and Harry Potter is pro-child neglect.

It really feels like some people go into movies with their mind made up already and just look for things to reinforce their opinion or just straight up fabricate it

Yet to see Wafare, but I feel like it got way to much hate before it was even released and it just translated onto people’s opinion of it afterwards.

To some people, including something bad in a movie is fetishzing it

Nic, I’m going to be honest. I think it’s pretty silly that America will go to a country, destroy it, steal its resources, kill its people, and come back home to make a movie about how traumatizing-

People’s main issue with it is its “shoot now, cry later.” Somehow soldiers who invaded and destroyed an entire country are portrayed as victims because the native population fought back.

Warfare is still a movie focused on the experience of violence from the extremely powerful invaders destroying people’s homes that never needed to be there. It’s no better than American Sniper

this d*scourse has existed for ages with Truffaut's famous "no such thing as an anti-war movie" and the reason it persists is bc many sincere protest films increase recruitment after their release

i feel like the “is it pro war or anti war?” discourse has been a super limiting framework - i definitely don’t see it as a ‘pro war’ movie, but that doesn’t meant it’s not political

my largest problem was it was the fact they're navy seals, tough to have any sort of anti-war messaging when it's about the most effective killing force on the planet

My issue was the movie valorized service while trying to say war is pointless

The age of algorithms has the conditioned audience to feel as if a film must in some way reflect their personal interests or bias. This plus younger audiences don’t have the life experience to truly understand a story that isn’t telling the viewer what to think about the subject.

Elephant is genuinely a horrible film. I don’t find it to be caring or empathetic, it’s gross. Just a collection cool shots of a school shooting… but it’s not sensationalizing right? “It’s reality” 🤓

Warfare is not war propaganda because of the artist’s. Every war movie made in the US is war propaganda because the U.S. gives weapons to the production in exchange for signing off on the film.

i definitely don’t think it fetishized war/violence. but something about it just felt off - i really didn’t enjoy it. it was almost visceral how much i disliked it. but im struggling to find the words

as someone who watched warfare, i dont think it was fetishizing violence. but it also barely gave a nod if at all to the family whose house was taken over. or the other perspective of the war.

I have learned that these types of criticisms are from people who don’t actually like movies but rather like finger wagging and feeling morally superior for any reason they can find.

This is the truth, it just feels like everyone being loud about this film on social media is just virtue signaling…

they're completely wrong about Warfare fetishizing war. unfortunately, it still acts - completely against the will of the creators - as military propaganda. because young men will always desire...

Given the respect that Polytechnique was made with, and the fact that it addressed the motive while Canadian politicians were trying to brush it aside, that legitimately blows my mind.

Warfare is the most shocking and true war movie I’ve watched. Such a tough watch, only thing going through my head as I left was “God bless the troops”
