@justinveenema: Found a Shiba Service Dog 🦮 This interaction is really sweet. ❤️ When I went to the Sakura Days Festival, I actually went there to photograph people. I have so many dogs in my archive that I still need to publish, so I swore no more dogs until I can get through my backlog 🥲 BUUUUUT… Then I saw this gorgeous Shiba Inu and I couldn’t resist asking 😅 That’s when I met Faith, her roomate Hanna, and Mochi - Faith’s service dog in training. Mochi is a VERY sweet pup who is super calm & well behaved. She’s also incredibly smart, and I caught her peeking her head up a few times when she realized we were talking about her lol. 🎓 As a general rule - you always want to give service dogs a lot of space, and not ask to pet or interact with them when they’re on the clock. So in this case, I asked for permission every step of the way. Not just to photograph Mochi - but permission to get down on her level, pet her, praise her, give her a treat, etc. Mochi’s training has been a mix of owner training, and working with a certified service trainer on her public access skills. She is task trained in providing medical alerts, grounding/tactile stimulation, making space, and Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT). That day was one of Mochi’s first big events, and she did SO well despite all the distractions around her (Mochi is particularly fond of ducks and smelling flowers lol).
