One year has flown by, and I’m honestly in awe 🥹. I've never opened up about my hijab journey because, (a) I’ve felt it’s unnecessary and (b) it’s deeply personal and its honestly been a struggle for me before. Everyone’s path is their own, and I’ve often found hijabi discourse online to be incredibly toxic. But here’s what my journey has looked like: 1️⃣ I thought about it for months, making so much dua. Because, yes, you will never feel completely “ready,” but preparing your heart and mind is key—whether that’s through dua, gradually adjusting your wardrobe, or, most importantly, strengthening your relationship with prayer. 2️⃣ When the genocide in Gaza began, watching muslim Palestinian women in constant prayer clothing deeply moved me, accelerating my eagerness to wear it. Then, on New Year’s Day, a close friend’s cousin—just a year or two older than us—suddenly passed away. I ended up wearing the hijab on the first day of his funeral. I share this to emphasize that everyone’s journey is unique and deeply personal, and no one deserves to be judged because I promise you if you think you’ll never make the same “mistake” or have the same struggle as the next girl, it’s a lot closer to you than you think. I have good days and bad days just like any other woman. Im not perfect by any means. It’s not always easy—it takes a lot of emotional and mental patience sometimes—but what I’ve come to learn is this: it’s about so much more than covering my hair and body. For me, it’s a practice of discipline and devotion. Watching genocide be inflicted on my people for nearly 500 days has entirely impacted my spiritual journey. And even though I get anxious some days, with the height of Islamophobia being amplified by anti-Palestinian hate, I’m that much more eager to be visibly Muslim. #hijabi
