I still think he’s a pointless diversion. “Oh cool the ring doesn’t affect this guy? It would be easy for him take it to Mordor for us! Will you do that Tom?” “No.” “Oh okay bye I guess?”

Whatever :
My take on Bombadil: LOTR and Silmarilion are Written Mythology Epics, Tom is the old folk songs and campfire tales, nursing rhymes. That’s why he is the oldest, he was created before the epics

Tom was robbed of at least having an appearance in the film

Actually, because it starts rather whimsically, I think it serves as an accurate depiction of the war's effect on the characters and the atmosphere. The ending leaves everything changed. Frodo asks "where shall I find rest" and Gandalf, for the first time, doesn't have an answer

Tom Bombadill is by far one of my favorite characters. An incorruptible force a being that has been there since the beginning m and his love for his wife is everything!

Somehow yellow galoshes as the product of modern industry ending up on a shaman of the woods is hilarious. Let’s normalize laughing where the writing was obviously meant to be humorous. 😂

I always thought Tom was like, Eru iluvatar incarnated in Arda. Since everything was made through his music and Tom sings everything.

The barrow wights scared the heck out of me when I was young, but reading it aloud recently they were more laughable. And Tom wasn’t that out of place. Guess a lot depends on the audience.

Frodo had to attune with the Second Age through Gildor, and with the First Age through Bombadil and Goldberry. It was part of Frodo’s hero’s journey and completely necessary

I think it was the gentlest way to help the hobbits understand that they were indeed, leaving the shire to a wide and terrifying world. I think Tom as a guardian angel of sorts that had to keep (1)
