@aynsley_broom: When I think about films that deal with whyte passing in history, I think of “The Imitation of Life” from the late 1950s. And I remember watching it in my early 20s, and how it made an impact on me as a lightskinned Pacific Islander. Then when I saw “White Lies” later in my 20s it really hits close to home because of the added cultural aspects. I’m not Maori, but I’m Samoan, and just seeing the story through a Pasifika lense impacted me even further. This is not a new topic, and it’s also a very current topic with the release of #SinnersMovie and the character of Mary. This is not an easy film to watch but as I was learning more about my heritage and trying to watch as many Pasifika films as I could, this one made a major impression. Plus, it has some amazing talented actors as a part of its cast. It’s not an easy film to watch, but I defs recommend it. You can find it on Prime. #whitelies #aapi #apifamily #asianandpacificislanderheritagemonth #maori #rachelhouse #aapiheritagemonth #maoritiktok #pacificislander
