@jeremyfilmsthings: Made a silly video about a serious topic. Cats are such a huge contributor to Australia’s extinction crisis so seeing them amongst our lyrebird population is terrifying. In reality, these cameras were actually set up to monitor lyrebirds and we have a permit to do so. With so many other species captured on camera, I thought it would be fun to share! #wildlife #conservation #lyrebird #birds
Cue the “mY cAt WoUlDn’T dO tHaT” and “HuMaNs ArE tHe ReAl PrObLeM” comments in 3… 2… 1…

thankyou so much for bringing this issue some attention. I'm tired of explaining to cat owners how impactful outside cats are to our wildlife

our cats are strictly indoor cats for this reason. they can sunbake all they like on the window sill but they never go out.

Agreed, cats are perfectly fine indoors (even with supervised outside time in gardens or catios). It also means your cat will live longer and you don't risk a fine from your council

All of our cats are indoors. I believe that the only times a cat should be outside is in a secure enclosure/run or in a harness/leash

It should be mandatory to have a license for a cat and free to keep and breed native animals. Australia is upside down

Many many cat owners have become responsible - catios/cat runs, or keeping them indoors - but there will always be those who defy. Just like smoking. 80% quit due to awareness raising, the remaining 20% had to be banned from areas. So it’s time governments seriously introduced bans. Set traps, catch cats, charge high fines to anyone who comes to collect. Or set up more cat free suburbs.

Cats r wonderful pets But they are relentless hunters. They must be kept inside or outside in a harness or in a specially built enclosure. I (cat owner) get so upset seeing them “put out” at night

I seem to recall something about a study in the UK saying that cat impact wasn’t as much as they thought on birds due to cats taking mostly sick.

Also there is a 24hour cat curfew in the area this video is filmed. It’s so sad that irresponsible pet owners continue to let their pets roam. We have multiple cats roaming in the area and they have killed birds and possums in my yard. I have camera and have seen it happen. Please please please keep your cat indoors 24/7.

I wish the law was stronger in NSW. My cats are confined but so many aren't where I live. Where i came from in Vic cat had a 24hr curfew

Such a great video, showing people who don’t seem to understand the reality behind letting a cat roam at night 👍
