As a Jamaican, I’ll always give credit to Trinidad — they’re the originators and true pioneers of carnival culture, no doubt. That’s not to take away from what Jamaica or any other island has brought to the table, but the roots run deep in Trini soil.

Actually none of this debate is coming out of Jamaica. We were not comparing but Trinidad feels threatened. We did what needed to be done and we are on to the next. We don't need no soca monarch.

As a Jamaican who has been attending carnival… I wish we could just have the fun without comparing lol. It was the newspapers (who don’t know anything about participating) as local revellers know to not compare jamaica carnival to trini carnival lol embarassing

Cultural aspects are missing because carnival only started in Jamaica in the 1990's, it is not Jamaica's culture. Carnival started in Trinidad in 1780. yes 1780. it is Trinidad's culture
