I caught an eye infection back in June 2023. Misdiagnosed for 7 weeks before I was properly diagnosed and treated properly. Using contacts destroyed me mentally and physically. Because of contacts I now lost complete vision of my right eye due to a fungal infection called “Fusarium.” Because of contacts I had to pause school, I stuck through the pain and slowly declining vision loss for 5 months of school until the pain was too much for me that I decided to pause my last semester of Respiratory Therapy school. Because of contacts I had to go through 5 eye surgeries just to save me from losing my eye (2 surgeries in which were during RT school). I had 3 vitrectomy surgeries (the first one was in August 2023 when my eye pressure was at a 70), a corneal transplant in December, and because of my prior surgeries my retina detached so I had a retinal detachment surgery the beginning of this new year. I lost complete vision of my right eye and will have to learn to navigate life with one eye. I know I will become a stronger person mentally and physically. For those who wear contacts PLEASE be careful. Never sleep with them on, avoid showering with them, and never use them longer than prescribed. I learned this the hard way.
