Maybe you meant it rhetorically lol… but they can’t build ‘em like this now because both skilled labour AND materials are so expensive (back in the day labour was cheap!), there are few people around trained in traditional skills like plastering and glazing (window making). The wood quality comes from old growth lumber which if it even exists anymore is exorbitantly expensive… And modern building code results in proportions that just don’t look right. I think if you had unlimited resources you could, but for the rest of us, we’re living in an era where new homes labeled “luxury” are made with the cheapest, crappiest materials. Drywall, “luxury vinyl plank”, “engineered hardwood”, vinyl windows… sigh.

“Why don’t they make houses like this anymore” because artists aren’t given real careers, because making it quickly and cheaply is more important than making safe homes that last, because they’re not building houses for people to live on they’re building them to sell and rent. Capitalism ruins everything.
