The meme “Nyukhai bebru” (Ukrainian: «Нюхай бебру», pronounced *[ˈnʲuxɑj ˈbɛbru]*)** originated in Ukraine and gained widespread popularity thanks to a video on the YouTube channel Optimus Gang. In November 2018, they released a video titled "Zhmuryky", where one character hits another with a shovel and says: “Seryozha, the job's done. Smell the bebra.” This scene caught viewers attention, and the phrase quickly went viral. The word “bebra” has no specific meaning in Ukrainian; it's a made-up term and doesn’t appear in dictionaries. In the context of the meme, the phrase “smell the bebra” is used similarly to “buzz off” or “get lost.” After the video’s release, the phrase became popular on social media, especially on Twitter and TikTok, where users began using it in various memes and humorous contexts. Despite its absurdity, the meme remains popular to this day.
