Well, I disagree about the guy asking for silence. I bet he was telling the other two "Listen how the parts come together so greatly!" Obviously they are looking at the score: in those times music books were not very common and the musicians used to play at first sight. They had to look at it almost hypnotically, otherwise the ensamble would fall apart. They had to even interpret the score, in a time of basso continuo, not everything was written, different from nowadays. And there would be laughter and surprise, the room would be quite loud, not just because of the music, but for the livingly interchange of the players. Yes, playing music actually, as with theater, comes from play! So, I beg to differ that the guy is doing a "shhhhh!"
