They don't develop schizophrenia. They develop psychosis. Schizophrenia has psychosis, catatonia, flat affect, etc. Psychosis is just delusions/hallucinations, which are somewhat contagious

Being around people with schizophrenia doesn’t cause you to become schizophrenic. What can happen is that if you’re emotionally vulnerable, isolated, or already predisposed to mental illness, spending a lot of time immersed in someone else’s delusional world might confuse your sense of reality, at least temporarily. But that’s more about your mental environment than “catching” anything.
