@ksenaaga: May 7, 2025 #louisiana #usa Heavy rains hit New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana on Wednesday, causing flash flooding, hurricane-force winds and significant damage across the state. Storm damage, including downed trees and power lines, was reported in Jefferson Parish. The damage was severe, according to Scott Walker, a Jefferson Parish Council member. New Orleans recorded a new daily rainfall record of 41.7 mm, surpassing the previous record of 33.8 mm set in 1976. Parts of the state received 150 to 200 mm (6 to 8 inches), causing widespread flooding. The storms came from Texas. Strong winds knocked down trees and power lines, causing power outages and school closures. More than 5,000 customers were without power as of Wednesday afternoon, and more than 3,000 of those were still without power as of Thursday morning.
