You realise what they were based on, what the conditions were, and peoples capacity for change. We often don't realise our survival mode until we are in crisis. And not everyone's survival mode complements each others. It's an ongoing grief, discovering and learning g the layers of change and loss, but also one of a horrible kind of liberation.
