@curious.handmade: This genius sewing hack has saved me so much money. 💷💵 Use thread cones (or spools) on a domestic machine with an easy homemade thread stand. Make sure it’s good quality thread (not serger cones as the thread is thinner). If you sew a lot it’s brilliant as you save money and aren’t changing the thread constantly. #sewingtips #sewinghack #learntosew #moneysavingtips #sewtok #sewingforyoupage #threadstand #sewingforbeginners
Now fix bobbins running out every 10 minutes please

Just be careful that you’re not using serger thread cones.

Only use good quality thread suitable for standard sewing machines, not overlocker thread as the quality is lower. Why put in all the work only to skimp on thread that literally holds it all together

Great tip for a table sew. I have even bigger reels. So huge they don’t wobble around. We just drop them on the floor behind the machine and thread up.

I just set the cone on the floor behind my machine. It doesn’t tip over and it has no problem coming up to the machine. This seems like a lot of extra steps.

Does anyone know where I can buy a hemming tool ( yard stick with metal thing on it that you can put pins thru) that doesn’t cost a lot.

Thank you so much! I'm starting my sewing journey and was looking at the price difference of threads and was like, "There has to be a way to make this work."

Is it just serger thread?

Serger thread is thinner. It’s meant to be used in conjunction with other threads, not stand alone

This is such a good hack. Thanks for sharing. I used to put my thread spool in a jar but it would keep getting tangled.

Most surger thread is two ply and it’s a little thinner. Regular thread is three ply so if you’re just top stitching, it probably doesn’t matter, but I would not sew armpits or crotches with it.

I think I have the same sewing machine you have. Do you have an auto threader? If you do can you do a tutorial on how to use it?

Thank you for this hack. 🥰 I have a large box full of thread cones. I didn’t know how to wind them into sewing machine spools to use them.
