what if i consider authoritarianism an evil that supercedes any kind of socialist metrics? what if i value the right to self determination over, for example, equal wealth distribution? or equal power distribution, even though that is incompatible with the idea if a state in the first place.

And often times socialist and communist countries weren't allowed to develop because of the red scare and domino theory. Capitalist countries (especially the US) would try to stop communist politicians from growing, with the CIA even overthrowing smaller governments.

I’m not so sure about Cuba my guy, I’m a socialist through and through but by every metric Cubans are impoverished, the leaders are super corrupt on top of US sanctions. Most people are food insecure.

I’ll make this really simple put 10 people on a production line and set the line at 300 parts per minute then pull five people off and ask the remaining to do the work of the other five. There are no socialist and no communist on a production line. The world is one big production line.

There have been government that have created better conditions for laborers than the governments before them, but nothing resembling socialism. There are no successful large socialist societies by capitalsist or socialist standards, bar a few niche examples nobody who has this conversation ever considerers, whatever side of it they’re on. As a socialist, this fact hardly bothers me. Democracy as an idea has been around for more than 2,500 years, and has never been successful on a large scale, but people still keep trying it because it’s such a good idea. Socialism as an idea hasn’t even been around for a tenth of that time, so I’m not discouraged just because we haven’t nailed the execution of it yet.

I like this but it is an over played hand. You can’t do A because you’re looking at B wrong is a pretty common argument. This emerging opinion is interesting because it only exists due to the success of capitalism in the modern age. The amount of people that conflate capitalism with the corporatism is a great example of choosing what you want reality to be not what it is
