I don't understand why the delete button. doesn't just overwrite the memory with NULL, then lose the pointer.

Even if you write multiple times over it, data can still be extracted. Need a low level formst to erase it all. Even then it may not be enuf

There are some tools like avast that come with delete functions that delete then automatically overwrite data afterwards

Just encrypt your drive, phones do this automatically and on computer too it's relatively easy to set up
