Women, especially mothers and caregivers, are often expected to hold it all together, to smile through chaos, and to be endlessly patient. But the reality is that overstimulation is not just a word it’s an overwhelming experience. It’s the constant noise, the endless notifications, the sensory overload, the pressure of expectations, and the mental load of carrying everyone else’s needs. It’s feeling like the world is closing in, and even the smallest things a loud TV, a tight shirt, or a misplaced crumb can become the final straw.
But here’s what we need to remember: Overstimulation is not anger. It’s a silent scream for space, a plea for just a moment to breathe, to reset, to find calm within the chaos. So, let’s normalize this conversation. Let’s stop mislabeling it. Let’s learn to recognize the signs in ourselves and others. And most importantly, let’s give ourselves and the women around us the grace to pause, the freedom to step away, and the support to come back stronger. You are not ‘too much.’ You are human.
