Me and my friends did this to a degree in our board games class when we were board, but we called it DND chess. It needed three-five people to play, and spectators make it even more fun. One person had to be the game master with a set of dice. You play chess like normal, but roll do to anything. You could make a legal move (normal move) or illegal move (not normal move). This led to things like a shadow the hedgehog cult, misiles, a giraffe, a cowboy rook, and more
