I don't think y'all understood the film, Anna WAS in love, with a character she created in her mind based on stories she heard as a child who helped her heal. Marnie (Anna's grandma) is not the same person as the Marnie we meet. Marnie isn't real. Even when the events were actually Marnie's memories, which wasn't all the time, she often played Kasohiko, the person Marnie ended up marrying. It's unlikely that Marnie was a queer character, but the way Anna felt about this CHARACTER that SHE CREATED shows is that Anna probably is. This is also confirmed by the shows themes of exploring identity through imagination. When Marnie was There is literally Anna's self insert fanfiction of her childhood stories and Marnie as we know her is completely made up

"Don't make this a gay movie, it isn't", then why did Anna blushed CLEARLY multiple times when she's close to Marnie? Even if the book isn't "gay", Anna clearly as a character IN THIS MOVIE SHOWED CLEAR SIGNS of being flustered & shy when Marnie physically touched her. Even if the ending was revealed that Marnie was her actual grandmother, it doesn't change the fact that Anna started to have affection & lil bits of feelings for her from the start (when usually she is uncomfortable being close w/ anyone).

first ghibli movie i watched! its what got me into ghibli and anime etc in the first place. id definitely recommend to someone who hasnt seen it before! its such a lovely story + the art is incredible and its got a great message. yeah go watch 💗

gw pas nonton spirited away, kiki's delivery service, dan when marnie was there kerasa banget kayak tenang, damai, kayak di mimpi, tapi juga sekaligus kek ngerasa lemas dan kehilangan semangat hidup. apa lagi when marnie was there.
