"Our people are being oppressed with the active assistance of our people" I thought this was a slip until I realized that it's "Our people" (black folks struggling against oppression) and "our people" (descendants of the Irish diaspora). Irish liberationists see black liberationists as their people as much or more than "Irish" Americans.

My grandfather and grandmother would tell me all about the atrocities committed against their parents and grandparents…then say some of the most racist anti-immigration things within the same breath…childhood was confusing.
